Six Post Lockdown Date Ideas

Finally, after what has seemed like an eternity (potential exaggeration), I see a beacon of hope that normal service may soon resume. For the singletons out there, said beacon may actually symbolise the flickering candle of romance and the exciting prospect of a physical date; waving goodbye to Zoom and hello to va va voom...

Since you've been out of the dating game a while (or you should have been at least), I thought I’d offer up a few achievable amorous suggestions, which should spark your love life into action. They (pretty much) adhere to social distancing and take into account the inevitability of bars and restaurants being unavailable for use.

Picnic in the Park

As old school as Robert De Niro but also as slick as the Hollywood ace. This concept has been around since your great grandparents courted, and for good reason too.

A lush area of grass, an accompaniment of bubbles, and an array of cute delicacies (perhaps a few aphrodisiacs) laid out on a shabby chic rug; it’s typically romantic.

A picnic in the park is a smart way to embrace the summer and enjoy some shared quality time in the open air – just keep the PDA to a minimum, there may be others trying to stomach their lunch.

Homemade Cocktails

Going for cocktails is Always a great date idea. More often than not they taste delicious, are a great topic of conversation and get you tipsy fairly pronto, which can handily ease (or accelerate) any pre-date apprehensions.

However for me, homemade cocktails are an even more appealing concept. The notion of fashioning drinks for one another, paired with subliminal competitiveness and a forecast featuring a high chance of drunken behaviour and oversharing, sounds like a 'hoot'.

Check out some great suggestions for summer drinks to make one another.

Pizza Making – Dough it yourself

Now, you could go all out and cook a beautiful, three-course dinner for two, with premeditated wine accompaniments…

Or, you could get messy with Dough it yourself pizzas and embrace the informality of an evening at home.

Loosen up, engulf one another in flour, be adventurous with the toppings (Never pineapple) and delve into the Spotify archives. This sounds like a proper date. Simple but effective.

Paint them like one of your French girls

If the film ‘Titanic’ taught us anything, it’s how to spit, a captain Always goes down with his ship and ladies apparently like being drawn.

I’d say this is a better option for the budding artists out there; we don’t want to cause offence to your date early on. All jokes aside, it's an opportunity to get creative and innocently stare into each others eyes.

This one certainly doesn’t require alcohol but it may help with the shock, should they disapprove of your portrayal of them.

Staycation

Who says you have to leave your home city to have a great weekend away?

Book a hotel room, don the complimentary robes, find tranquillity at the spa, over-indulge on room service, binge Hollywood classics and enjoy an abundance of new surroundings, within an Uber ride of your door.

DIY Wine Tasting

Embrace your inner sommelier and create a wine tasting / pairing experience en su casa.

There are so many bloody good wines to try, which can be bought very affordably in either independent retailers or supermarkets, and what better way to do it in bulk than a wine tasting?

Everybody knows, when you're indulging in an evening of wine, the full works are required. We're talking an array of meats and cheeses, as well as those delectable cornichons to nibble on, whilst perusing your thought-out wine list.

Small chance of education, high chance of drunken mischief.
