Most men don’t like shopping at the best of times. There’s no denying that. Suit shopping is perhaps the exception, as every man feels additional power in a suit. However, on the whole, heading into town for a Saturday spent perusing the shops is pretty low down on most mens’ to-do lists.
And then you have shopping for underwear; which will most likely be at rock bottom in the wish list (unless of course it’s accompanying a partner for lingerie hehe).
Some chaps hang on to the same old, moth-eaten underwear for far too long…especially pairs they have spent premium prices on a few years back. Although most people won’t see you in your briefs, it doesn't mean underwear isn't an important component of any good outfit.
Your underwear acts as the foundation to an outfit. Firstly, there's personal pride to consider.
And secondly, If you are lucky enough to lure a lady friend back to your house, she Never wants to take off your trousers and see a threadbare, faded pair of pants - it just suggests:
You don’t care about yourself and your appearance.
Or you lacked the confidence to actually bring her home
Or even worse, you didn't make an effort to wear a decent pair even though you expected to bring her back. (Men expect women to wear their sexiest underwear on the reg, why is it different for guys?)
With a fresh approach should come new underwear and I have the perfect suggestion.
Arlo Hudson is a brand formed out of frustration with the current state of play in men’s underwear. For too long we have either been been paying a premium price, for nothing more than a printed waistband, or not purchasing new underwear at all.
The brand ethos is centred on doing things properly - using sustainably sourced fabrics fit for purpose, designing functional and aesthetically pleasing products, and working with specialist factories in their respective craft.
Their first product is made from Tencel, a sustainably sourced fabric made from eucalyptus plants. The material is naturally biodegradable and uses 20x less water to produce than cotton. It's also extremely soft and comfortable.
They're raising the bar down below; and so should you. Check them out here!
A few additional rules when it comes to underwear:
Always wear a clean pair of underpants each day - this turn inside out rule should Never, ever come into play. (Yes, I've heard this actually exists)
Always check to see what materials the product is made out of - a premium brand print on the waistline doesn't necessarily suggest premium quality.
Never opt for briefs - In my opinion they just aren’t comfy and really don’t look great. If you do brave them, I'd advise you Never to do so in cold conditions.
If you’re not a fan of sleeping Ned Stark, and you think PJs are for pensioners, then I’d Always advise seeking comfort in the form of well-elasticated boxers. It keeps everything compact and in position for maximum support.
